Detoxification of the Body

Detoxification of  body
generally concerns cleansing of the bowels, kidneys, lungs, liver and even the blood. These organs and tissues are the main ways that the body eliminates, or processes toxins out of the system.

The kidneys processes fluids and disposes of waste products through the urine. The liver basically cleans the blood of toxins and chemicals that have been absorbed into the body. The lungs help use expel toxic and unneeded gases from the system. Our blood actually travels thoughout the body collecting chemicals for the liver, lungs, and kidneys to process and remove. And the bowels, well, we all know what they do.

At its essence, body detoxification refers to anything that helps the body get rid of toxins in the body. Simple things like drinking an extra few glasses of water each day or getting more fiber in your diet will help eliminate more toxins.

Over the course of human history, especially the last 150 years or so, people have been drastically chemically changeing the environment. In the year 2000 alone, the soil and water tables of our planet were assaulted by more than 4 billion pounds of chemicals!! But the dry ground wasn’t the only place that was threatened. More than 260 million pounds of chemicals were dumped into the surface waters of the Earth also. Its a sad fact that with each year the amount of chemical pollutants released into the environment increases also.

But it’s not just the outside environment that gets polluted by chemicals. Our internal environment is also being polluted. The processed food that we typically eat is packed with artificial colorings, flavorings, preservatives, etc. So poor quality food choices in combination with the toxic environment increase the number of chemical toxins in our bodies to a great degree.

There are many ways that these toxins can affect you. As we suggested above, external toxicity is a result of breathing, ingestion, or coming in contact with toxins in your external environment.

Internal toxicity happens when toxins are produced in our body through its normal, everyday functions, specifically digesting foods. Now, your body is designed to handle a certain level of toxicity. But having optimal health depends on your body’s ability to eliminate these toxins efficiently.

When toxins are not eliminated, they can cause irritation or inflammation of the cells and tissues. This can prevent your cells and organs from functioning properly. When your bodily organs and systems aren’t functioning properly this can lead to fatigue, headaches, and even disease.

Sometimes the effects of toxins are cumulative. This means that it builds over time and you may not notice the change taking place until the toxins have reached a certain level. As the toxins are building up, they interfere with the normal metabolic processes that take place in your body automatically. This build up can lead to various allergies and even some addictions.

Long-term exposure to external toxins can result in metabolic and genetic alterations such as cancer. In fact, the World Health Organization has linked environmental toxins to 60 to 80 percent of all cancer cases.

Its easier for us to control our internal environment versus the external environment. Because of this, we can practice detoxification of the body as we need to and on a regular basis if we choose.

Consulting with your doctor and doing some good research will start the ball rolling toward developing your own approach to a good body detoxification cleansing regimen. You can sign up for the mini course on the home page to get more information on body detoxification.
