A Good Choice: The Liver Cleansing Diet
You can give your liver some much needed R and R by following a liver cleansing diet plan. Following a special diet for a liver cleanse means avoiding the foods that put a burden on the liver and its processes, while at the same time eating plenty of foods and herbs that support and help the liver regenerate and do its special work in the body. However, it's good to point out that a good liver cleanse diet should be taken up only after you have cleaned out your colon and digestive tract.
If you choose to follow a liver cleansing diet you will pobably clear up some of the problems that come with an overworked liver. In no particular order those problems might include fatigue, weight gain, increased allergies, fluid retention and many, many other problems. A liver cleansing diet can also be of benefit if you have certain conditions or diseases that affect your liver. These include a fatty liver, cirrhosis of the liver, and some forms of hepatitis, to name a few. And, if your liver enzymes happen to be elevated, a liver cleansing diet can save you a lot of money per month due to your medical treatments.
Now, there are many different liver cleansing diet programs that you can investigate further and choose to perform. There are also many different supplements that help your liver clean itself out and that build it up. We will look at some of these later in this short article. But it might help if we had a little refresher as to what the liver actually does and why its important to keep it functioning at an optimal level.
The liver is a pretty complex organ and is critical to sustaining life. One thing that the liver does is to cleanse the blood from harmful toxins and substances that find their way into our bodies. These harmful toxins can either enter our bodies from foods, the air, water, or even through the skin. Or, they could actually come from inside our bodies, from the foods we eat, or from different cellular processes that are done in other parts of our bodies.
Arguably, the main function of the liver is to clean and filter our blood. Did you know that up to 75% of the blood passing through the liver comes from the digestive tract? If our digestive tract is full of old food because we don't have enough fiber in our diets, or, we just eat too much, and not the right types of food, this can put an enormous burden on our livers. As food sits in our intestines, it starts to rot. As it rots, it produces toxins and chemicals that are actually harmful to our bodies. The liver is the main organ of our system that takes care of these harmful substances.
Another thing that the wonder liver does is to store different nutrients and then release them when the body needs them. The liver stores vitamins, carbohydrates, fats, and even proteins. All of these are ready and waiting to be released into the blood stream the moment that the body needs them. The liver is the largest of the internal organs in the body and we can't live without it.
Participating with a regular liver cleansing diet is a great idea even if you feel that you are fairly healthy. This is because, no matter how well we take care of ourselves and no matter how closely we watch what we eat, there are still poisons and toxins that our bodies have to deal with. Just as our physical bodies needs rest and relaxation at times, all of our organs need us to give them a break from time to time. Our organs need us to focus on what makes and keeps them healthy. They are working so hard to keep us well and disease free that we should really help them from time to time and give them a break.
So, how is a liver detox diet actually done? What is a liver cleansing diet all about? First of all, before you even start a liver cleansing diet, you should do your research into the several approaches to cleansing your liver. These approaches include taking supplements or herbs, using various juices or tonics, and there are other full blown dietary plans that are similar to fasting programs. After you have researched your program(s), you should then present it to your professional health advisor, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions or considerations. Your professional health advisor, whether a medical doctor, Acupuncturist, or even a Chiropractor can assist you in making your decisions more informed. The last thing that you want to do is to cause yourself any unintentional health problems when you are trying to do just the opposite.
Now, in general, as we mentioned above, a liver detox should be done after you have done a colon flush or or cleanse. If your intestines have a lot of putrid and fermenting food particles in it these need to be cleaned out so that they aren't reabsorbed into the blood stream for the liver to deal with. To find out about colon cleanses you can see the other articles on this website.
A liver cleansing diet is like any other diet. There is a specified time frame for things to be accomplished in. This can be short or long. It really depends on the method that you've chosen to detox your liver. The best place to start a good liver cleansing program is to eliminate from your diet those things that put an uneccessary burden on the liver. Namely, fried and fatty foods and alcoholic beverages. Both of these classes of foods cause the liver to work overtime trying to save you from the effects of your poor food choices. So, the first place to start is by preventing the problems in the first place. This step can actually be done while you are addressing your colon cleanse.
After you have completed that step, the next step is to start introducing to your system those things that will help the liver do its job. There are foods, herbs, and patent medicinals that all help support liver function. A couple of herbs are Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root. The former is an incredible liver detoxifier. Studies in Europe and in the US have shown that Milk Thistle will reverse diseases like Cirrhosis and Hepatitis. Dandelion root helps with gall bladder contractions and the release of bile which aids in more complete digestion of foods.
Food products that are good for liver detoxification are green leafy vegetables. You probably won't be able to subsist for any length of time on only these vegetables, but they can be a primary part of a simple liver detox diet plan that limits the amounts of fried foods. Beet greens, Kale, Dandelion greens all have minerals and vitamins that will help support liver function. Olive oil can also be used during your liver cleanse as it is easily digested. Most health professionals agree that a diet focused on natural whole foods is the best way to go and should only be done for a short period of time.
Remember to talk to your professional health advisor before beginning any type of liver cleansing diet. This will help ensure that it is safe for you to do with your particular health history and that you get the most out of which ever approach you choose to do.
