Is Your MakeUp Toxic?
Is makeup toxic? That’s a question that has been on the rise in recent years. Especially after certain scientific studies have shown that some cosmetics may be causing health problems for adults and infants. When you first think about it may seem that eye shadow and body wash have little to no effect when it comes to environmental health. But we may need to rethink this. Were you aware in August 2005 scientists published a study finding that some of the fragrance ingredients in cosmetics may contribute to the feminization of U.S. male babies? In more recent research scietists found a possible link between breast cancer and deoderant.
All of this should not come as a suprise to most people. At one time only the wealthy and affluent could afford, and even needed to use cosmetic products. The rest of us just took a bath once a week and went on about our work not thinking about how we looked or smelled. We were in the same boat as everyone else.
With the proliferation of cosmetic products from shaving cream to toothpaste, from shampoo and conditioner to eyeliner, there has been a corresponding increase in the number of chemicals that we put in, and on, our bodies.
Scientific and medical research has identified a host of chemicals that cause mild to severe health problems. And the chances are more than good that these chemicals are included in shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, hair conditioner, lip balm, sunscreen, body lotion, shaving products if you’re a man, and cosmetics if you are a woman. We all use them. And, its not just the adults, its also our children and babies. On any given day you might rub, spray, or pour some combination of sunscreen, diaper cream, shampoo, lotion, and maybe even insect repellant on their skin. These all have chemicals in them that may be absorbed through the skin.
If you’re like most people you probably use these products without a second thought. And in some cases its almost impossible to get around using them. Without even knowing it, our kidneys, livers, and lungs, may be getting overworked in an effort to remove these chemicals and toxins from our bodies.
A healthy segment of society is questioning is makeup toxic? In light of this, some people choose to adopt a regular detoxification diet that gets rid of the many toxins that are in our bodies. Whether its a fast, taking supplements, or even just drinking more pure water, many are seeking ways to limit or eliminate the harmful build up of toxins in the system.
